Getting to the ground

If you're driving down then there is virtually no street parking available unless you're prepared to walk a long way. One possibility if you arrive early is the area around Culwell Street (see pub map), which is a 10-15 minute walk from the ground. If you don't manage to find any street parking then you'll probably have to use one of the various pay and display car parks. Don't be tempted to try the Asda car park as you'll almost certainly get clamped. For train travellers, the ground is a 10 minute walk from the station.

Pubs
The few pubs anywhere near the ground and most of those in the centre will be home fans only. You may though be able to sneak in if you're not wearing colours and/or you arrive very early and/or you don't have a north-east accent. Otherwise head for those a decent distance from the ground. The one exception to all this is the designated away fans pub, the Bluebrick, which is a family pub attached to the Premier Inn. For what it's worth, here are some recommendations were all things equal:
Great Western - my favourite pre-match pub anywhere; friendly, good beer, basic pub food, quick service even when it's busy
Lych Gate Tavern - good selection of well kept real ales
Posada - small but historic pub
Combermere Arms
Royal Oak - Marston's pub of the year 2019
Clarendon Hotel - Banks brewery tap
Wheatsheaf
Goose or George Wallis - Wetherspoon clones with similar menu and reasonably cheap beer

All the pubs mentioned above, plus several others, are shown on the pub map below.
